ETIAS - European Travel Information and Authorisation System

ETIAS - European Travel Information and Authorisation System About

What is ETIAS?

The European Union is introducing The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS), a new visa waiver program designed to enhance security and streamline travel across Europe. Starting mid-2025, citizens of select visa-exempt non-EU countries, such as the United Kingdom will need to complete a simple ETIAS online application before visiting 30 participating European countries including Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland. (This does not include Ireland and Cyprus which are excluded and will not require an ETIAS)

ETIAS authorization is designed to enhance border security and to streamline entry procedures for eligible travellers wishing to enter Schengen Area countries. This system is part of Europe’s commitment to safer and smarter border management.

When Will ETIAS Be Implemented?

ETIAS is scheduled to launch in mid-2025, with the exact date to be confirmed. Starting from around six months after EES, approx. 1.4 billion people from over 60 visa-exempt countries will be required to have a ETIAS to enter most European countries.

Key Features of ETIAS

Validity

Approved ETIAS authorizations will be valid for three years or until the traveller’s passport expires, whichever comes first. Travellers can use the authorization for multiple entries, adhering to the 90-day-per-180-day stay rule.

Electronic Passport Link

Each ETIAS authorization will be electronically linked to the traveller’s passport. A new application will be required if the passport expires before the authorization’s validity period ends.

Efficient Application Process

Travellers can apply for ETIAS online via a computer or internet connected device using our mobile friendly site. The process takes approximately 10 minutes and involves providing passport details and answering questions related to medical and criminal history.

Rapid Approval

Most applications will be approved swiftly. However, in some cases, processing may take up to 72 hours, and in rare instances, up to four weeks.

Fee Structure

The application fee is applicable to travellers aged 18 to 70. Applicants under 18 and over 70 can apply for a half price when applying alone or for free of charge using our check & send service when accompanying a full paying adult.
